America’s biggest event, Super Bowl 50, is scheduled for February 7 in sunny California. Professional football’s premier event is, in a word, exciting! Sport’s ultimate objective is to showcase the world’s best athletes. We love to see talent in motion, and on display, especially in the granddaddy of all sports—football!
Frankly, there’s a part of me that wants to see the Lombardi Trophy go to Denver, given this is undoubtedly Peyton Manning’s last game in his 18-year NFL career. Teams aside, Manning deserves our admiration for his enduring talent. Staying healthy or recovering from injuries is especially difficult in contact sports such as football and wrestling. Add age to the mix, and the assignment just got exponentially harder. The Carolina Panthers, however, like their chances with their youthful phenom, Cam Newton. And who could fault them as Cam has led the Panthers to a 15-1 season.
Like millions of other fans, I relish the one-handed catches or Hail Mary grabs that create physical exercise for all of us as we jump out of our recliners in excitement. Heaven knows that I could use a few more deep-knee bends or squats up and down from the chair!
In the Super Bowl, the world-class athletic talent is rivaled only by the world-class commercials! Ask my favorite play from last year’s big game, and I couldn’t tell you. But, ah, those commercials! Budweiser’s Lost Dog and Fiat’s Blue Pill come right to mind.As a fan, it doesn’t get any better than this: football, comedy, and old-man calisthenics!
Enjoy and best wishes to Denver and Carolina!
